The piece that gave Ensemble Laboratorium its name in 2005. This is from a compact 120 minute version (37 movements out of 55) with which we toured a few festivals in 2012/13, with Vinko himself joining us on stage as a conductor for "Exercises Articulatoires". The full piece lasts about twice as long.
I've had the opportunity to play this one twice, with Athelas in Copenhagen and two years later with Studio 6 at the BEMUS Festival in Belgrade (for which we still haven't been paid BTW, after 15 months...) Unfortunately the full-length video footage has mysteriously disappeared, but we were able to get some short snippets that one friend filmed from the audience. So, you can still hear a short fragment from a rather long trumpet solo in the last scene. An opera by Helmut Oehring for 3 deaf-mute soloists, 5 singers, trumpet, bass-clarinet, electric guitar, 3 actors, mixed choir, baroque orchestra, symphony orchestra and live electronics; featuring music by Henry Purcell.
(The impatient ones can skip straight to the poetic scene with a nice trumpet solo at around 45') "In-transit action after Sebastian Brant for actors, improvising brass quintet, amateur wind orchestra, amateur male choir, skateboarders and passers-by" This is where I've met my dear friends from the Express Brass Band who took me along on a very fun Turkish tour a few weeks later. I just realize I've been doing a pretty good job staying away from whoever was filming this, but if you are persistent you can spot me somewhere in the crowd, wearing a kilt. A second collaboration with Helmut Oehring (after the large scale work Unsichtbar Land in 2006), this time with only 3 actors and the ensemble, with some rather silly choreography, and a lot of brilliant acting bits by our own Alex Gabrys, which unfortunately aren't shown in this trailer. Premiered in fall 2008 at Gare du Nord, Basel |
MEDIA COLLECTIONI was always terrible at acquiring, keeping and uploading my own recordings; so here are mostly some audio and video links I could scavenge from various sources around the internet, in no particular order. A lot of the really good stuff is missing, but that's how it is... Categories
